For Gabriella Malta, art has always been a natural form of expression.

 

Long before Gabriella stepped into the world of design, she was a child in Brasília, Brazil, exploring life, her voice, and her emotions through drawing, painting, and songwriting. These early experiences with visual and musical expression shaped her perspective and laid the foundation for a lifelong creative practice.

With over 14 years of experience in visual and product design, Gabriella built her career exploring the relationship between visual communication and human experience. In 2017, her move to British Columbia, Canada, brought a new perspective, where the dramatic landscapes and artistic culture of the West Coast began shaping her artistic journey and narrative.

Today, Gabriella Malta’s work reconnects with the tactile nature of painting while being informed by her multidisciplinary background. Her practice moves between expressive portraiture and bold abstraction, using layered compositions that combine acrylic, oil, spray paint, and custom-printed collage. Bridging design and painting, she creates and prints her own graphic elements, incorporating these fragments into physical layers of paint—a personal metaphor for how the many layers of our identities can come together to create something meaningful when grounded in authenticity.

Through this process, figures, textures, words, and abstract gestures emerge in dialogue, reflecting the complexity of identity and belonging. Whether deconstructing a face or exploring the emotion of an abstract form, her work captures the layered and evolving nature of personal and collective stories, celebrating the richness that diversity brings to the human experience.
